Like the other edible species of Grateloupia, G. hawaiiana has a pleasant taste reminiscent of the ocean and combines well in a vinegar dressing or pickling sauce. The blades can be pressed together and shredded or sliced, then eaten fresh in a salad or cooked in a soup or “Tsukudani”.
