An alga of this genus is commercially cultivated in E Asia and S America for the edible product “Hitoegusa-nori” or “Hirohano-hitoegusa nori”, popular sushi wraps. The highly valued food “Aonori” is produced from this species, and used in China, Taiwan and Japan, cooked as soup and as a seasoning.
Used for preparation of miso soup, nori-jam, salads, and seaweed powder for various foods in the Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.
