Used as food in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Turbinaria is used in the Pacific Is cuisine as a pickle, fritter, soup or stew, omelets or stir fried. When chopped fine it can be added to salads. Dried plants can be crisped and pounded into a powder for use as seasoning. In the Moluccas the seaweeds are most frequently eaten raw with lemon juice but sometimes are cooked with coconut milk. T. ornata is made into a pickle in eastern Malaysia.
