Used for foodstuff in Indonesia and Korea, and for animal fodder in Korea; used fresh or dried for both human and animal consumption for its high nutrient levels and good taste. Is often collected as food by people in the Yellow Sea and Gulf of Chihli areas of Northeastern China and by the aboriginal Yemei tribe in Taiwan; also eaten in Hawaii, Pakistan, Japan, the Philippines and in the Malay Peninsula. In Korean cuisine is used in various seasoning with sesame oil, and sometimes vinegar; in Indonesia used to make salad, and vegetable soup. In India, it is used as a vegetable and also in the form of salad, jam and powder.
